2 Great Places to Use Acrylic Binders with Nancy Reyner

Often you'll think of acrylic binders (mediums, gels, and pastes) as a great way to change the thickness of your paint. And Ep. 63 guest Nancy Reyner agrees.

But it’s not the only place you’ll want to use them.

Reyner says there are two other places you can get creative with your options: your very first layers and your very last layers.

Put it to Practice:

In your first layers, acrylic binders can greatly change the working characteristics of your surface including making it more or less absorbent.

Try adding a layer of molding paste or pumice gel to your board or canvas before you begin working to see how it affects your paints.

You can also use acrylic binders as the very end of your painting process. They work great to add veiling effects to your final layers as a way to calm areas down or bring in a sense of cohesion.

Adding a thin layer of light molding paste for example, can add a veiling effect to those final layers.
